Emergency Preparedness at Trinity

By Christa Johnson |  April 1, 2013

We recently purchased 2 AED (Automated External Defibrillators) used to treat Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).  SCA is a condition that occurs when the heart unexpectedly stops pumping.  SCA can occur to anyone- infant, child, adult, male or female- anywhere, at any time.  A person in Sudden Cardiac Arrest does not respond when shaken and is not breathing normally.  If in doubt; call 911, bring the AED to the victim’s side and follow these steps:

ð PULL the handle on the SMART Pads Cartridge.

ð PLACE the pads on the patient’s bare skin.

ð PRESS the flashing Shock button if instructed.

For most people there is fear about using an instrument like the AED, but thankfully this unit is equipped with audio commands, giving directions through every step. One AED will be located in the church office and the other will be located in the Fireside Room.

There are also first-aid kits available in the church office, the ushers’closet in the back of the sanctuary, and in the downstairs kitchen.
