March Benevolence

Ethiopian Chicken Hatchery

A year ago we joined with other congregations in the NW Washington Synod to partner with our companion Synod, Mekane Yesus in Ethiopia in building a Chicken Hatchery, which will sell chicks, create jobs and protein for local families.  Proceeds will then be used for educational development and seminary scholarships.  Our Synod’s goal was $50,000 which would help complete the first phase of this project.  As of January 2012 we are happy to say that through many congregations’ help our Synod has met that goal.

The Synod’s commitment to this project continues, and for the month of March, Trinity has designated the Ethiopian Chicken Hatchery as our “local” benevolence.  In 2-3 years the plan for the hatchery is to become self-supporting at which time contributions will taper off except for larger items such as incubators.

Pastor Lee Kluth will be at Trinity on March 4 to bring us an update on the Chicken Hatchery Program and to encourage our enthusiastic support for the chickens that bring jobs, food and a better life in Ethiopia.  You may bring your gifts for this fine program through Easter.  What a great way to put a chick in your Easter Basket!  We have posted pictures of the chickens already hatched and growing  on the bulletin board in the Fireside Room.   Thanks for your support!
