NW Washington Synod Assembly

By Richard Aasland |  August 9, 2011

The NW Washington Synod Assembly was held May 13-14 at the Lynnwood Convention Center.  Pastor Jocelyn, Clara, Pam & Lee Kluth, Cyndi Nielsen and Richard Aasland attended.  Each officer of the Synod gave their report to the Assembly and several people extended greetings from various Lutheran Missions. The Treasurer informed the Assembly that financial contributions were down from the previous year and that some programs and staff had been cut, both within the NW Synod and at the National level in Chicago.  I learned that the chicken hatchery in Africa will cost $102,000 so our change for chicks has helped get this project off the ground, along with the rest of the Synod’s contribution for this project. A measure was brought before the Assembly to eliminate term limits so that an officer could be elected to the same position for more than two consecutive full terms.  This measure was defeated and Bishop Boerger reminded everyone that a new Bishop will need to be re-elected in 2013.  A Bylaw was also voted on to allow meetings and voting within the Synod Council to be concluded electronically or by telephone conference and notice of all meetings may be provided electronically.  This Bylaw was passed by the Assembly.
