October Worship Notes

September 29, 2011

On Sunday, October 2 we honor the memory of Saint Francis of Assisi and celebrate the wonders of creation with a Blessing of the Animals.  You are invited to bring a photo of a beloved pet or other animal to share.  Pet treats will be sent home and hymns in honor of creation will be sung.

Reformation Day is on Sunday, October 30th.  We celebrate Martin Luther and his teachings about God’s mercy and grace.  Our festival worship will include our favorite Lutheran hymns and songs and we will pray for the continued reformation of the Church as we move into the future.

Candles on the altar:

As we worship together on Sunday mornings, during the month of October, we will join with Lutheran people everywhere in praying for persons who have mental health issues of all kinds. We pray also for their families and other care givers.  The white candle on the altar is a symbol of our prayers.

We also include in our prayers those who are victims of domestic violence and their families and those who work to help them be safe and rebuild their lives.  Our September local benevolence gifts were designated for Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County. More than 200 adults and children annually find refuge in their Emergency Shelter and hundreds more are served through their Legal Advocacy Program. The purple candle on the altar is a symbol of our prayers.
