Women of the ELCA (WELCA) Update

February 24, 2014

On January 26 a WELCA business and planning meeting was held. The local benevolences selected to receive a donation of $250.00 from our bazaar profits were: Cocoon House, Interfaith Association Family Shelter, Women and Children's Center, Domestic Violence Services, Compass Health, Open Door Ministries, El Camino de Emmaus, Trinity Aid Bank and NW Washington Synod Women's
Organization.  We also elected to spend $100.00 for the installation of castors on the new stove in the downstairs kitchen, and decided to pay for the cleaning of the carpet in the Administration Building.  It seemed prudent to hold the rest of our funds for expenses that might arise during the year
A discussion was held regarding ways to condense the annual bazaar.  It was decided that next fall we would try holding the bazaar in the Fireside Room.  This is intended as an experiment and we may decide it is better to use the basement depending on the results. Also because we feel that the major profits come primarily from, serving our traditional lunch, bake sale, jewelry and craft items, we will eliminate selling vintage items. We are also planning to do a sanctuary cleaning on April 13th, the Sunday before Easter, following the worship service.  You are all  invited to lend a hand!
